NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER – THURSDAY, MAY 2

The Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) reminds everyone that Thursday, May 2, 2024 is the National Day of Prayer.

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May inviting every one of all faiths to pray for the nation. The tradition began in 1775 when the First Continental Congress called for a national Day of Prayer, continued when President Lincoln called for a Day of Prayer in 1863 and was made into law in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress and signed into law by President Truman.

As we prepare for the upcoming Memorial Day Parade, we need your help in identifying Italian-Americans from the Lower Naugatuck Valley that have perished in a Foreign War. 

Students from Derby and Shelton High School Italian programs are researching to help us recognize these war heroes for the upcoming parade.

Mrs. Connecticut American Joins Derby-Shelton Rotary

Shelton’s very own Mrs. Connecticut, Liza Ginoni-Gambino, recently joined the Derby-Shelton Rotary.

The very first time I met Liza was at our Shelton Day festival. She was introduced to me as Mrs. Connecticut American. She was so warm and authentic. I asked her if she wanted to get into one of the Shriners cars with me and she said yes, without a second thought. I was very excited to learn she was interested in becoming a member. She’s a definite asset to our Derby Shelton Rotary Club. She loves to give back to the community. I knew she would be a perfect fit,” said Kim Ryan Caro, Club President.

AnSeOx Rotary Scholarship Winners Announced

Students residing in the Towns of Ansonia, Seymour and Oxford were asked to write an essay utilizing the motto of Rotary International — SERVICE ABOVE SELF” — each applicant was asked to submit a 500-word essay that addresses this theme. The essay needed to reflect its personal meaning to each student, relating it to personal experience and articulate the importance of service in life and community, state or throughout the world.
